Problem of Nigeria is Leadership –Tony Oyatedor
Zainab Tanimu
Kaduna,  North-West, NIGERIA
A Non-Governmental Organization Newstime in its mass campaign for Peace has identified the problem of Nigeria to be that of leadership.
What Nigeria is facing today it has described as a legacy of  many years of problems as such has urged Nigerian leaders to wake up to their responsibilities.
The country it emphasized is blessed with abundant natural and human resources  that can make it bounce back to prosperity if well gavernized.
These and other problems the Executive Officer, Tony Oyatedor brought to fore in a press conference organized at the Nigeria Union of Journalists  Secretariat (NUJ) Kaduna.
Lamenting over the deplorable condition which the country has found itself owning to bad leadership,  he said.
“Talking is not leadership, doing is leadership. Leadership must implement a road map for what a peaceful, stable, secure and prosperous Nigeria would look like.
“Leadership must implement short-term goals to improve life for Nigerians.
The country must wake up after decades-long slumber.
“Oil has brought dismay (consternation) not delight in Niger Delta.
To  cure  what ails Nigeria, leadership needs to understand the peoples pain. Still lamenting,
“Leadership says “an individual could make a difference,” individuals have consistently tried to make a difference in Nigeria, but without support from anyone – private, public, federal, state or local government.”
According to him,  “We at Newstime has the solution”. Lot of opportunities are out there if only effective machineries are put to function by those in leadership.
“There is so much work to be done in Nigeria, yet people complain about unemployment he said.
“No light- employ people at electricity companies to give light, no roads- employ people to build roads, no water to drink- employ people to produce drinking water, no clean environment- employ people to clean the environment, no good schools- employ people to build schools, no infrastructure- employ people to build and maintain infrastructure etc.
“For every and anything we do not have, employ people to build or produce it. We have the human and natural resources in abundance.”
God he pointed out loves Nigeria that He gave them everything. He sounded.
Tony, in his words of hope and inspiration had called on Nigerians to help build the nation for according to him, all is not lost.
“Nobody is at peace until everybody is at peace.
Nigerians must know that a new beginning is possible. Nigerians must chart a new destiny by changing their ways.”
The eloquent and concerned Peace Ambassador had classified Boko Haram Insurgence and Niger Dental Militantcy as twin brothers which he said should  be handled with utmost care for peace to reign.
“There is an urgent need for new thinking about an old problem, the twin problems. Newstime has the solution. To us at Newstime, this is less about us and more about the future of the country.
Twin brothers Boko Haram Militantcy and Fulani herdsmen all claiming lots of lives.
“Churches Mosques houses raised down during crisis are all uncivilized and condemnable acts.” He stressed.
“It is wrong and uncivilized for any group of people to kill and destroy properties for a religious or political cause.
“The federal and state governments, the churches, the mosques, the pastors and Imams must collaborate to bring lasting solution  to the problems.” He emphasized.
Oyatedor charged the media being the fourth estate of the realm and the people’s eyes and voice to use all within its disposal to help bring  about positive change.
“We must solve this problem of Nigeria ourselves.  Use the power of the pen to right the wrongs.
We want solutions. There is need to work together for the betterment of Nigeria. The media should not be allowed to be used by enemies of progress to disterbilse the country.  He cautioned.
“The twin problems in Nigeria is a serious problem and no one is working to fix it, they only talk about it but Newstime has the solution, and will roll up our sleeves to work and fix it for good.
“For a while now, there has been distress (trouble and anguish) in Nigeria, a nation in bewilderment and perplexity (without resources, left wanting, embarrassed, in doubt, not knowing which way to turn). People swooning away or expiring with fear and dread and apprehension and expectations of the things that are coming to the nation.
“Evil can only thrive in Nigeria when good people in the country keep quiet when things go wrong.
The leadership trust know using weapons to end crisis, magnifies rather than mitigates the problem. The crisis in Nigeria (the twin problems) is like a river of fire and Nigerians are swimming in it.
Leadership must make peace with the twin problems, not because they want to, but because they have to.
To suggest otherwise would be inaccurate.
Terrorism is error and sins of ignorance and thoughtlessness. With the twin  problems came excruciating distress and severe pain to Nigerians.
A society and nation that cares for one another is a secure and peaceful soeity and nation.
Nigeria needs to make peace with the twin problems in the country, because the nation is nourished by food from the North and depends on oil and gas from Niger Delta.
The unintended consequence of Boko Haram is that whichever way you slice it, farmers in the North pay more to produce less.
Team work is the only way to succeed. He emphasized.
By the favor of Almighty God (lnsha Allah) we shall rebuild and restore the houses of the people of the North which has fallen and destroyed, we shall rebuild its very ruins, and will set it up again. Amen.
There  are many people out there  he acknowledged who benefit from this condemnable act of killings of innocent  lives, benefiting from bloodshed.
Such he said would surely face the wrath of their evil deeds.
There is the need to seek for knowledge as it is of great importance to solving lots of problems. He said.
“In the Holy Quran, Holy prophet Muhammed (PBUH) said “seeking knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim.”
Continuous spending on weapons the NGO has condemned.
“The biggest mistake is to focus heavily on the effects of the problem rather than the problem itself.
Leadership must therefore redouble its efforts to get the word out, “Peace brings security.”
“Nigeria needs the peace of reconciliation to hold and to enjoy peace  He added.
