Journalist Network for Democracy and Development Lauds Ganduje Strides in Health Sector

The Journalist Network for Democracy and development has lauded Kano state Governor Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje for putting mechanism in place to reduce medical tourism in Nigeria, and also reduce healthcare delivery to minimum cost.

Investigation by the Group reveals that with the commission of the Ultra-Modern Hospital along Zoo road, Kano state will now be haven for those seeking medical redress.

The hospital has some of the best state-of-art facilities available in the country manned by 19 Doctors and160 Nurses and Midwives.

The hospital also has a teleconference hall and a world class physiotherapy center.

According to the Medical Director, the hospital has on its pay-roll 42 Doctors , 92 Nurses and Midwives; and experts who are consultants.

Some of these experts are based outside the shores of the country, but made themselves available because they are indigenes of the state.

Similarly, Governor Ganduje recently commissioned the DFID/EU Solar project at Gwagwarwa Primary Health Centre in Nassarawa Local Government Area, and the inauguration of 83 TED microscopes, donated to the government by National Tuberculosis Programm/Global Fund.

This is not a surprise because quality and affordable Healthcare delivery is of the cardinal principles of the administration  in order to improve the people’s health because a healthy society is a wealthy and productive one.

Ganduje through community mobilization and evidence-based interventions, such as recruitment of health personnel, community midwifery programme, training, upgrade and renovation of health facilities, as well as sustainable health financing, is bringing a revolution in the health sector.

Ganduje is also determined to take the state to higher level in the health sector, like other areas, through the newly created 4 Emirates.

He had kicked started the process with the call for contractors to apply for the construction of the proposed ultra-modern hospitals at the headquarters of each newly emerged Emirates, with the capacity of 400 bed spaces which the Group commended.

The state government also shows transparency by inviting contractors to first and foremost, express their interest for such of the proposed upgrade of 4 health facilities, of 400-Bed spaces at the headquarters of each of the newly created 4 Emirates.

The following of due process from the scratch does not only display clear and close observance of transparency in the process, it also displays commitment of the state government in fulfilling that promise, immediately the new Emirates came into being.

It is also discovered that the state has resolved to boost health care delivery system in all the 4 newly created Emirate Councils.

Some of the structures to be put in place includes conversion of existing buildings to wards, hundreds of 22 bed capacity blocks, dozens of Accident and Emergency (A & E ) blocks,

“Theatre blocks, Maternity blocks, dozens of Eye Centres,

Ear Nose Throat (ENT) blocks, Dental Clinics, among others.

“Others include Physiotherapy blocks, Radiology blocks, Laboratory blocks, Mortuary blocks, Restaurants/Eateries, Patient Relation Sheds, Incinerators, VIP Toilets, Road networks and external works, Entrance Gates, Power Supply/ Generating Sets, Bedroom Doctor’s House, Bedroom Senior Staff quarters and Workers Lodge.

“For the Cancer Centre, the state government places high premium on who to make quality procurement of equipment to be used at the world class Centre also.

“To promote openness in the process, interested suppliers have already been invited as published in some newspapers few days back.

It is indicative to note that as the state government is desirous of establishing a Cancer Centre to cater for the increasing number of patients with a view to improving the quality of health care services delivery in the state, it is imperative to know why the state is following the due process in doing that.

‘To make  the Cancer Centre of global standard’.
