19,000 households get food as Zulums spends day in Gajiram
Nineteen thousand households, each with minimum of six family members have received varieties of food and none food items in Gajiram, headquarters of Nganzai local government area in northern part of Borno State.
Governor Zulum directly supervised the distribution while spending the entire Tuesday in the town.
Over 11,300 females received wrappers and a token of 5,000 naira each, while 7,800 male households received a bag of rice, a bag of maize grain and a 3 litres of cooking oil each.
The beneficiaries were mostly internally displaced in formal camps and within host communities.
Zulum had on February 2, 2019 assessed facilities destroyed by the insurgents in Gajiram, during which he ordered the immediate rehabilitation of affected buildings.
Municipal and traditional institutions were part of infrastructures vandalized by the insurgents. Rebuilding them will pave way for the restoration of civil authority in the town.
The member of House of Reps, Representing Monguno/Marte/Nganzai Federal Constituency Bar. MT Monguno, Chairperson of SEMA and members of the State Executive council were led in the distribution by the Governor.
Zulum informed the gathering that, his government will do everything possible to restore peace in the state, which will enable people return to their farmlands.
Governor Zulum also charged elders and the stakeholders in a meeting to cooperate with the security agencies by providing information on suspicious movement.
Zulum lamented the continued provision of food items to communities, stressing
that if such huge amount could be channelled to the development projects, you can best imagine the progress achieved so far.
“I charged you all to cooperate with the security operatives.This will enable security agencies to restore normalcy in our land, and our people can go back to their farmlands. We cannot continue to depend on food aid to survive. With the kind of resources we inject in providing relief items, you can only imagine the development projects we would have executed.” Zulum lamented.
“In most cases, during the distribution excersice, I tried to resist shading tears, when will our people stop queing to receive relief items.” Zulum said.
Governor Zulum was also at Gajiram Mega Primary School, where he supervised the enrollment of new pupils for immediate
resumption of academic activities. He assured of all the necessary support to ensure all schools in Gajiram were reopened.
“Education is a game changer, ensure that the enrollment figures are matched with the classroom capacity, I will provide the uniform, reading materials and all other facilities, we will ensure sustainability insha Allah.” Concluded Governor Zulum.
