Renew Wanton Killings In Zongo Kataf, A Breach Of Peace Accord – (MACBAN)
… Seeks Justice Over Killing Of Wakilin Fulani Atyap, others
Zainab Tanimu
Kaduna, North – West, Nigeria
Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association Of Nigeria (MACBAN) Kaduna State Chapter has condemned what it described as renewed wanton killings of innocent fulanis residing in Zongo Kataf local government area of Kaduna state.
This condemnation was buttressed while addressing journalists in a press conference held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Secretariat Kaduna today, Thursday, 1st of April, 2021.
In a statement signed and read by the spokesman of the association, Director Media & Publicity, Ibrahim Bayaro  Zango, the association is demanding justice for the wanton killings and destruction of properties of its members (fulanis) in Zongo Kataf LGA of Kaduna state.
According to the association,
In the past few days, there have been series of deliberately targeted killings by the Atyap communities on Fulani people including two Ardos namely: Ardo Pate Kurmi (Wakilin Fulani in the Atyap Chiefdom) and Ardo Muhammadu Anchau who were brutally killed in cold blood after embarking on a peace mission to Gora District of the Atyap Chiefdom.
” Their killing was orchestrated in a systematic way with active connivance or tacit support of the Officer In charge (o/c) of Operation Safe Haven stationed at Gora Gan village, Gora District. This is because the attack that culminated into the brutal killing of the two Ardos and one other person started right at the camp of the Operation Safe Haven at Gora Gan when some Atyap women erupted into protest attacking the Ardos and other three Fulani people that were with them.
” Notwithstanding the violent protests, the officers of the Operation Safe Haven asked the Ardos to be driven by the Secretary to the District Head of Gora District (one Ayuba Bungwon) without any security cover. Unfortunately, they were intercepted on the road along Sagwaza and the two Ardos and one other person by name Muhammed Yakubu got brutally killed.
As the Almighty would have it, two young persons were able to overrun the attackers and narrowly escaped. They are:Yusuf Dauda, and,Bammi Ardo Anchau.
Gentlemen of the press, there were several attacks on Fulani people and their livestock in Zango Kataf LGA’s and surrounding Local Governments in recent weeks. ”
Stressing on the injustice meted on its people, it said, the killings and the wanton destruction of wealth of innocent Fulani persons perpetrated by the Atyap communities in Zangon Kataf and other surrounding areas is baffling as it is coming after several Peace efforts that have been initiated by concerned stakeholders of Fulani, Hausa and Atyap ethnic groups in Kataf (Atyap) Chiefdom and beyond.
As a result, many lives and livestock’s were lost.
” The Association therefore views the renewed violence on its members as, provocative, mindless, deliberate and criminal acts capable of endangering more chaos to the entire Southern Kaduna.
We commiserate with the families of the deceased and those who lost valuable wealth during the violence. ”
Still on wanton attacks on the fulanis, the association has also condemned what it calls the antics and deliberate destruction of Fulani settlements in the Kagarko grazing reserve by one Vice Admiral Iko Ibrahim (r.t.d) who is a former Chief of Naval Staff who have been going about intimidating, harassing and torturing Fulani community members of the grazing reserve on the pretext that he is the owner of over 30,000 hectares in the grazing reserve. ”
It accuses Vice Admiral Iko Ibrahim of ” conniving with the military personnel manning the road block at Kagarko town who usually enter the grazing reserve in their hilux vehicle in a commando style to subject the residents of the grazing reserve to series of torture, extortion and outright looting and burning of their hamlets and other valuables.
” Unless drastic measures are taken by the relevant authorities to deal with the antics of the said Vice Admiral Iko Ibrahim, it may lead to serious security and peace breach in the grazing reserve and the entire Kagarko Local Government Area and Southern Kaduna in General. The association lamented.
In its appeal, Miyatti Allah has called for the arrest and prosecution according to the laws of the land the Perpetrators of this heinous acts.
Also, the leadership of Atyap Chiefdom in particular and the Southern Kaduna in general are called to caution their subjects from attacking, killing and maiming the fulanis nor destroying their hard earned wealth.
The association is demanding that
the Government pays adequate compensation for the lives of their members who were killed during the attacks as well as for their wealth that was heartlessly destroyed by the Atyap communities among others.
The Kaduna State Government it appeals should also take necessary action by ensuring the arrest and prosecution of the said Vice Admiral Iko Ibrahim (r.t.d.) and his cohorts.
”We call on the Kaduna State Government to come to the aid of the victims of the violence perpetrated by Vice Admiral Iko Ibrahim and his agents which rendered them homeless and currently living in deplorable conditions at the goodwill of neighbors and relations.
However, the association has cautioned its members to refrain from any act or action that could jeopardise the peace of the area while they wait for relevant stakeholders interventions.
” We call on our members to be calm and law abiding and not to take laws into their hands and to allow constituted authorities to enforce peace and order. ”
