Pope Francis has passed away at the age of 88
The Vatican confirmed his death today April 21, 2025, in a post on X handle. (formerly Twitter).
The announcement stated that he died in his residence. Cardinal Kevin Farrell, the Vatican camerlengo, also confirmed the news.
According to the Vatican’s announcement, the pontiff recently was hospitalized at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital for double pneumonia.
Reports indicate that Pope Francis had been battling double pneumonia for several weeks.
CN-TV reports that the Vatican provided updates on his condition, including a period where he was considered to be in critical condition.
Following the announcement of Pope Francis’ death, cardinals will be summoned to Rome to elect his successor. The Vatican will ritually confirm the death and declare nine days of mourning.
The burial is expected to take place within the fourth and sixth day.
