Democracy Day: FG declares Thursday,12th June, public holiday

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, June 12, 2025, a public holiday in commemoration of this year’s Democracy Day celebration.

This was contained in a statement  issued on Sunday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani, in Abuja. According to Ajani, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulating Nigerians on achieving 26 uninterrupted years of democratic governance.

Stressing the importance of the event, “June 12 represents our historic journey to building a nation where truth and justice reign, and peace is sustained and our future assured.

“The last 26 years tells the story of our resilience, strength and courage and a hope renewed than ever,” Dr. Tunji-Ojo said.

Reaffirming Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to democratic values, the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu he said is deeply rooted in the universal principles of democracy, which include the freely expressed will of the people in determining the country’s political, economic, social, and cultural systems.
