Senator Oyelola Ashiru has lost the backing of APC stakeholders in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State, as all 12 wards in the council reportedly endorsed former Federal Character Commission boss, Muheeba Dankaka, ahead of the 2027 National Assembly elections.

Ashiru, who currently represents Kwara South Senatorial District in the Senate, is seeking another term under the platform of the All Progressives Congress. However, the endorsement by party stakeholders in Offa signals growing support for Dankaka’s senatorial ambition within the area.

Dankaka, the Erelu of Offa, reportedly polled about 20,000 votes during the ward-based exercise conducted across the 12 wards of Offa Local Government. Both Ashiru and Dankaka are natives of Offa, although Dankaka is married to a Kano indigene.

Speaking on the development, an APC stakeholder in Offa, Alhaji Mubashir Olaiya, said youths, women and party stakeholders across the local government united in support of Dankaka’s candidacy.

According to him, the people of Offa chose “leadership defined by capacity, character and conviction.”

“Youths, women and stakeholders across all 12 wards came together as one. They chose light over darkness,” Olaiya said.

“They declared that Kwara South deserves better representation, and they found it in Dr. Dankaka.

“This is not the victory of a single ward. This is Offa standing united — a people who refused division and chose leadership defined by capacity, character andconviction.

“From Essa A to Shawo South East, Shawo South West, and every ward in between, the verdict was emphatic,” he added.
