NAWOJ Kaduna Joins Global Campaign to Raise Cancer Awareness
Calls for early detection, affordable healthcare, and stronger advocacy

As the world commemorates Cancer Awareness Month, the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kaduna State Chapter, has joined the global call to intensify awareness on the devastating impact of cancer and the lifesaving importance of early detection, treatment, and support for survivors.

In a statement signed by Chairperson Sahura Jibril Maidoki and Secretary Hadiza Bello Abdullahi, NAWOJ Kaduna noted that cancer remains one of the leading causes of death worldwide, affecting millions of families each year. The association emphasized the crucial role of information, education, and advocacy in reducing the spread and fatality of the disease.

NAWOJ urged government agencies, healthcare providers, civil society groups, and the media to strengthen awareness campaigns, encourage regular screening, and ensure access to affordable and quality healthcare for all.

The group also made a passionate appeal to women to take advantage of available screening opportunities for breast, cervical, and other types of cancer, stressing that early diagnosis greatly improves survival chances. Men, too, were encouraged to actively participate in cancer prevention and advocacy efforts, as collective responsibility remains key to defeating the disease.

Reaffirming its commitment, NAWOJ Kaduna pledged to continue leveraging the influence of the media to inform, educate, and mobilize the public toward a healthier, more cancer-aware society.

“Together, we can build a future free of cancer,” the statement concluded.
