HAJIYA SALAMATU TUKUR BAGS ANOTHER TRADITIONAL TITLE IN KADUNA

It is true the saying that a golden fish has no hiding place. Hajiya Salamatu Ahmed Tukur was fished out amongst many in recognition of her good job.
An act that has earned her more than one traditional title.

Kind and easy going Hajiya Salamatu is one woman to be reckoned with when it comes to touching the lives of the people. Particularly the less privileged .
Wondering why she is in a traditional regalia? Your answer is not far fetched.
The event which brought her into the circle of the ‘who’ is ‘who’ of the community took place at Kinkino Kaduna where community members within and outside the environs trooped out to witness the turbaning ceremony of a rare gem.
In their separate speeches, both Akimi Kinkino and Sarkin Kinkino urged the newly turbaned to be dedicated, just and remain committed in serving  their communities.
The Akimi however cautioned them not to politicise their offices but join hands with the government in charting way forward for people in their communities.
According to the Akimi the honour was in recognition of their contributions in their various communities.
Hajiya LaraiTukur is the only woman recepient of the title.

She is a staunch politician blessed with the milk of human kindness.
In a brief interview with Hajiya Zainab Tanimu of Newsreservoir, she opened up on her activities and plans for the 2023 elections.
Excerpts.
Ques: How do you feel today being honoured with this traditional title?
I feel very happy. Infact l don’t know how to express my feelings.
People complain that getting traditional title is not an easy thing to come by. I thank Almighty Allah because it came so easy. The people in my community, the elders all found me worthy to be turbaned. I thank Almighty for the grace.
Ques: What will you say is the reason behind this gesture?
Ans: Huuum! It is Allah’s grace. I have done many things. I have been carrying out some activities in the community and outside, like payment of school fees, and assisting orphanages.
My passion has been for orphanage homes. To assist the orphans and widows. l spend a lot on this project. I have been doing this for the past 20years.
It will interest you to know that this is the second title l am receiving.
Quest: I remember last time you came out to contest. What was it that you contested for?
I came out to contest for Women Leader Kaduna state under the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC). That was in 2015.
Quest: Why is it that you find women in most cases seeking for the position of Women Leader instead of higher position where her impact will be most felt?
Ans: You’re right.
Quest: Can’t you aspire for something higher than that?
Ans: That is what is in my mind now.
This time around l am Insha Allah going for something higher.
Ques: And what is that?
Ans: (laughs) This time around, l will come out for the office of Local Government Chairman or House Member, Insha Allah.
Ques: Which of the local governments do you have in mind?
Ans: Chukwun local government.
Ques: What is your call to women in terms of politics. We need more women participating in politics. Holding offices.
Ans: l must say this time around there is change. You can’t compare now with say, 10years back, because l see more women coming out to contest. Mostly, married women. Things have changed. More women are participating in politics. I am encouraging them to come out the more.
Ques: Do you people get the support of your husbands because it’s not an easy terrain, competing with the men.
Yes. You know once you’re going in for politics, first and foremost, you must get the support of your husband, your family and your children. Once you get that, you’re good to go.
Speaking, hajiya Aisha Salisu who is also a title holder, (Garkuwan  Mata, Gunduma Gwargwada ) attributed  reason why women are being recognized for traditional title to the fact that they are more trust worthy.

“We women are trustworthy that is why we are considered and recognized for traditional title. Anything you have and you want it to reach the poor, those at the grassroot, if it is entrusted to the women, be rest assured it will reach them. That is the truth. For me anything that affect women be it in the night if l am called upon, l always respond, no matter how late.
I thank my husband because he is very supportive. He accompanies me whenever situation arises. We have on several occasions settled cases between husbands and wives so as not to get to divorce. Even spinsters and bachelors, we assist them by offering them guidance because many of our youths today are engaged in some questionable activities.
As for the title bestowed on hajiya Larai, l must say is well deserved.
 I Know hajiya Larai for over 20years. Even before she got this title, she has been very helpful. Anytime there is problem, she renders assistance. We work hand in hand. She has been assisting orphanage homes. Infact l was a beneficiary of Governor El- Rufai’s  school feeding programme. It was through her l got the cooking contract. I am aware of many women who benefited too. And all has been through her efforts.
Shamaki Kilishi Sabongari also expressed joy and commended the traditional council for the recognition.
He described hajiya Larai as a very hardworking woman. She is like a mother to him. He said.
“Hajiya Larai is like a mother to me. I have worked with her for years.
She has touched many lives. One thing about her is that if she sees that you have nothing doing and you write, she will try her best to help you to find something doing so that you can help someone too.
Shamaki is one who manages her affairs and ensures that things work smoothly.
