Kaduna, Northwest Nigeria
The Gubernatorial candidate of the
New Nigeria People’s Party, (NNPP), Suleiman Hunkuyi yesterday opened up on his 2023 plans for the people of Kaduna state if he emerges the occupant of the NO.1 seat in Kaduna state.
The event held at the Nigeria Labour Congress secretariat which was organized to interface with members of the labour force in Kaduna gave room for engagement and better understanding of the candidature of the aspiring governorship candidate.
Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress Comrade Ayuba Suleiman together with his team had described him as a good material for the state.
Comrade Ayuba in his remark urged the candidate, a trained professional teacher, to use his charismatic leadership style which has been tested to turn around the economy of Kaduna state.
Delivering his mandate, a two time Guber candidate, and senator, who represented Kaduna North senatorial district in the last Assembly, Senator Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi, if given the mandate has promised Kaduna workforce and the entire people of Kaduna state a healthy and
bouyant administration.
Emphasizing on his principle of a man who stands by his words. He said.
“I stand here before you, before the Kaduna state Labour force, before my people, before my state, in my party, l will never say what l don’t do and l will never do what l refused to say.
“Even if you have a draft charter here, l will study it, what l cannot promise, l will not sign because we must live by our words.
I am a trained classroom teacher. I am someone who believes strongly in the teaching profession.”
..
The profession he described as very dare to him saying, “It is a peg of education for which prosperity and all livelihood find excellence, find exit, find rally point of which the Nigerian nation to my own believe and indeed my dare state has missed the point”.
Lamenting, he said the first policy decision to remove subsidy on fertilizer has brought negative impact on the economy. Agriculture he said is the mainstay of any economy, not oil. Citing
European countries that have sustained their economy through agriculture and use of subsidy.
There is need to redirect the economy, saying If given the mandate come 2023,
NNPP will create clusters and employ technology that will enhance farmers output, thus improve the nation’s economy.
He spoke on the issue of security which he said is top most on the party’s agenda.
The situation we live in begs for prayers and action. We are in a siege.
Security is the responsibility of the government. It is explicit in the constitution.
One of the policy that stand reversed, we are bringing it back. We are bringing back the district heads. We will embrace community approach to security.
We will develop a module which will emanate from the community.
The guber candidate mentioned some arrears of focus that will be given utmost attention.
One of such is, the educational sector where he discredited Kaduna state’s government reintroduction of fees in schools and high fees being paid in the universities.
In an engagement that took place between the Nigeria Labour Congress workforce and the candidate, the NLC had put forward part of their charter of demands seeking how the party hopes to actualize such dreams if eventually emerges victorious come 2023 election.
Such demands border on job security, the issue of non living wage, non payment of pension, that of exodus movement of health workers as well as caring for the private sectors.
Responding, the senator assured them of NNPP’s support saying, why he has decided to remain in politics in Kaduna state is because he wants to ‘ flush out those misfits out of the seats.
“Unkuyi’s 40yrs of partisanship cannot be swept under the carpet.
NNPP is out to remove the present government but the fear is that the next Kaduna state government can be formed in default and people will be in for it while warning that people resist such attempt because there is already a division in Kaduna.
“There will be no more dis engagement of workers under NNPP administration He said. As for non payment of pension, a joint committee will be put in place to get to the root of the matter and to assertain where and how it was managed.
“With honesty, determination, we could get to the root of the matter because everyone who has been laid off deserve a fair treatment. To know who has gotten what, and who has not gotten what. For such to actualize, the cooperation of the Labour union will be needed.
The exodus of workers he described as a big industrial crisis.
As for the present financial status of the state, there is nothing to write home about , he stated.
“Looking at the revenue profile of Kaduna state, from where are we going to get the money to run the state? “
Compounding the issue is the recent announcement of change in currency notes.
“The present increase in dollar has brought untold sufferings on the people.
Here we are today we are going to get five thousand note and others which we presently do not have.” He lamented.
Come 2023, if by God’s will he occupies the NO1 seat, Kaduna state budget will be reviewed by using supplementary budget. He assured.
Hunkuyi will be contesting against Isa Mohammed Ashiru of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Uba Sani of the All Progressive Congress (APC), and the governorship candidates of other political parties come 2023 elections.
