This call was made during the celebration of the world hijab day by Doka women held at Doka Mosque, Kaduna.

Hijab is an Arabic word which literary means to cover.

The event which was celebrated in conjunction with NASFAT Doka youth and the Children had top provoking lecture delivered by Sister Hauwa Abdulkareem. Naibatul Amirah, NASFAT Kaduna Branch

Delivering her lecture on the significant of hijab in Islam, she emphasized on a Muslimat putting on hijab.

She explained that Allah SWT has sent down a verse through the Holy Prophet Muhammed SAW telling the Prophet that, “you should tell your wives, your daughters, and women of the believers to cloth from head to toe. Meaning, it is compulsory upon every believing Muslim woman to put on hijab just as we know that salat (prayers) is compulsory on us. so is hijab wearing from head to toe is compulsory on us. Leaving only the face and hands.”

Still emphasizing on the importance of putting on hijab, she stated.

“Allah said, which of the women amongst the Prophet SAW conceals her beauty for me, l will lock up her secret on the day of judgement.

She urged the Muslimat to always be proud to put on their hijab.

While recognizing the fact that some women are of the believe that wearing hijab makes them ugly, such she described as negative tendencies and negative impact on hijab saying, the Muslimat should be proud of her hijab.

Hijab is a beauty on it own. This she supported with Allah’s verse in Quran 7, verse 26

“We have sent down clothes to cover your shame and to beautify you.” Meaning, your hijab itself is a beauty. Women should see the wearing of their hijab as their pride. Just as the theme of this year’s celebration states,

“Hijab is progression and not oppression

Stressing further,

“We should look at our hijab as a sign of liberty and not of backwardness.
We should not be wearing hijab just for a day, for only celebration like this. We should wear it to please Allah and ourselves and not to listen to what people say about hijab.

We should make it an act of Ibadah to put on hijab.”

Sister Hauwa however had lamented over the recent ugly trend where some women use hijab in perpetrating unacceptable acts.
That is not Islam. Islam is a perfect religion and Allah has made it for us to put on hijab in order to guide us from all forms of misconducts.
“As a good Muslim, your hijab should speak about your moral conduct. Your hijab should speak about your behavior. Your hijab should speak about your communication with people outside and inside your home. Your hijab should attract people towards Islam not to send them away from Islam. You’re an hijaba sister does not mean you should be harsh on people”. She sounded
Such practice is not only rewarding in the sight of Allah but projects us in good light provided we follow the laid down rules and principles guiding the wearing of hijab.

On the different types of hijabs and criteria, Islam she said has made it easy for one to  put on any colour of hijab.

The criteria is that,

“Hijab you’re putting on must be loose, must not be tight. The hijab  must not be transparent. If you’re putting on your hijab, you put it on without a heavy makeup.

She cautioned. If you put on an hijab that provokes any negative tendency from the male counterpart, be rest assure that the woman will share part of the punishment.

Speaking, Women Coordinator NASFAT Doka Group, Kaduna Zone, Hajiya Bashirat Seidu said the putting on of  hijab is an instruction by the Almighty Allah. It is in the holy Quran that as women one needs to cover from head to toe.

“When you say you’re a Muslim and you are not doing what Allah wants, it means you are not a true Muslim.

Hajiya Bashirat called on parents particularly the mothers to inculcate good morals and values in there children
“The way our children dress these days calls for concern. Is so pathetic. At times as a mother when l see some children it borders me. I keep wondering. Did the mother see this child before going out? Like me, when my children dress and l am not satisfied,  l call them back, tell them, go and change or go and put on your hijab.

I am calling on our women to be vigilant and be Godly because once you’re Godly you will be able to teach the children. Once you are Godly, follow the teachings of the Holy Quran and Sunnah of Anabi Muhammed SAW, all will be well.
Also speaking, the Assistant Missioner, NASFAT Doka Group, Ustazh Abdullahi Raji commending the women urged them to remain committed and be good ambassadors by wearing their hijabs.
Not only that, follow the injunctions of Allah SWT and teachings of the Holy Prophet SAW.
Austadh Abdullahi described one wearing hijab and someone who does not put on hijab with the silmilitude of a loaf of bread that is exposed, not wrapped making it unfit to consume and that which is wrapped and healthy for consumption.
He said, bread that is exposed, that is unwrapped, how can one compare it with that which is wrapped? Not comparable.
“So, for a woman, keeping her dignity is most adorable.”
To buttress the importance of putting on hijab,  he stated.
Allah in the Quran called on the Holy Prophet SAW to tell his wives, his daughters and the believing women to always put on hijab. Wearing of hijab is rewarding in the sight of Allah. He sounded.
.
Youth Secretary, NASFAT Doka Group, Brother Ahmed Abdulrasheed, in reaction to men who have the notion that woman in hijab are anti social said it is a wrong perception.
He called on such men to have a rethink because the word ‘social’ he said goes beyond the worldly and unacceptable conducts being perpetrated by some persons to show that, according to them, “they have arrived”.
Social is more of modesty of an inner self.
“Those wearing hijab are even more social than those not wearing hijab. If you think because they are not into all these social, worldly things that is why they are not social, what about the thereafter?
A person must be social in terms of academics, a person must be social in terms of Islamic injunction, Islamic faith, because is not about today, is about tomorrow.
Giving examples of what is happening in our society today where you find children engaging in one form of vices or the other all in the name of socialism;  he charged the parents on proper upbringing of their children.
“My advise to the men is that we should try and inculcate Islamic training in our children and our wives. We should also encourage them to wear hijab wherever they are. Hijab is the symbol of Islam. Hijab is the beauty of Islam. Hijab is not a fashion, is the preaching of the Holy Prophet SAW.

Some of the women interviewed expressed happiness of being an hijabite.
