Group Calls For Probe Of Corrupt Officials

A group under the auspices of, “The Corruption Trackers’ Initiative” has expressed concern over the rate of corruption perpetrated by some  ministries, parastatals and individuals.

It has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take stringent actions against such ministries and individuals so that his administration can start on a smooth  note.

This concern was raised in a press conference tagged, “No Escape Route for Looters” organized by the group today in Kaduna.

According to the spokesperson of the group, the Executive Director,  Hanza Abidin, 5 federal Ministries, 17 government agencies and parastatals

were investigated.

“We are happy that our activities will seriously assist constituted authority in bringing public funds looters to book.
We were able to track five federal ministries, 17 government agencies and parastatals.”
Some of the organizations were able to proof a good record of accountability, transparency and good governance while some could not.
In the course of their investigation which was based on, corruption, accountability, value for money, prudency and transparency, many discrepancies were discovered.
“In the cause of our tracking activities, we were able to establish as follows:
Some agencies, parastatals, ministries engage in last moment recruitment, procurements, contract awarding, auctioning, etc. Some of them never followed due process.

Investigation the group said also revealed that “some politically exposed persons are already in high level arrangement to leave the country in order to escape being questioned and probably prosecuted.”

Not only that, “some corrupt public officials are already forming groups which they intend to use in blackmailing some of the constituted authorities such as the ICPC, etc to forestall any investigation about their stewardship.

While calling on the public to be vigilant of such corrupt officials who might try to escape in order to evade the wrath of the law, the group will not relent in tracking them down. It said.

Submission of their findings and report will be made available to constituted authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution, lt added.

“The president must not allow anybody irrespective of political affiliation to escape punishment if found culpable in any corruption case.” The group stated.
