NiMechE Kaduna Elects New Executives

The Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NiMechE) has elected new officers to run the affairs of the chapter.

The election which took place shortly after the Annual General Meeting at the office complex over the weekend brought on board eleven elected officers.

The out-going Chairman Engineer Dr. Shaibu Ochelengu Yakubu before presenting his report to the house during the Annual General Meeting had appreciated members for their support and understanding during his stewardship which he said had made his job easier.

The institution he said had many aspirations for its member top most being that of developing them professionally.

Despite challenges, he maintained that his tenure was able to witness some measurable achievements. During the period under review, 77 technical papers meant to improve on members skills he said were presented while Six industrial and 7 courtesy visits were undertaken.

Still on his achievements, Engineer Shaibu said his administration is the first to initiate the Annual General Meeting. Out of the 20 new members that were brought to the fold, 15 members were registered. He added.

However, the lack of adequate response to payment of dues by members has been identified as serious challenge even though some level of progress was made in terms of membership.

Engr. Shaibu urged members to be forth-coming in payment of their dues while  challenging them to double up efforts in participating in chapter’s activities.

Receiving two members into the fold, Engineer Musa Ibrahim urged them to always avail themselves during meetings and activities of the institution as such he said would give them the opportunity to improve themselves.

The General Secretary, Mr. Ojo Emmanuel elaborating further on the activities of the chapter said aside the visitation to the Nigerian Defense Academy, (NDA) Ministry of Works and others, visits were also extended to schools where they were guided on choice of career particularly in relation to engineering.

After the dissolution of the House, the electoral body took up its task with Engineer Ben Osegale as Chairman and Engineer Oyeniyi as secretary.

Addressing the newly elected officers, Engr. Ben charged them to be committed in their new task as well as live up to their promises as that is the only way by which they can move the chapter forward.

“I want to believe that what you have promised to do would be adhered to. All officers have been duly elected and would be sworn in January, 2019, at the Annual General Meeting”. He ended.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman Engr. Ibrahim Bello while responding on behalf of his team pledged to remain focused in the discharge of their duties. He mentioned some areas which he said have being of concern to the newly elected Executives.

“We want to appreciate everybody here today for giving us your support to serve you as the new Exco for the next two years. Honestly,  this incoming Exco has something that is really bordering their heart. This has to do with the issues of attendance.

“ It is very clear if you check you would see that the attendance of NiMechE has been dwindling over the years. After instituting the elder forum, it would be the second thing we would be working on”. He promised.

The following members were elected to run the affairs of the chapter (NiMechE) for the period of two years with effect from January, 2019 when they would be sworn in.
