US rages as Nigerian govt places import ban on 25 categories of goods

The United States Trade Representative (USTR) has decried Nigerian government’s decision for placing ban on the Importations of 25 categories of goods from the United States .

The United States agency said Nigeria’s import ban on 25 different product categories which includes beverages, agriculture, pharmaceuticals and others  impact US importers. Particularly in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, beverages, and consumer goods.

USTR on Monday had in a post on its X handle, expressed worries over these restrictions.

“Restrictions on items like beef, pork, poultry, fruit juices, medicaments, and spirits limit U.S. market access and reduce export opportunities. These policies create significant trade barriers that lead to lost revenue for U.S. businesses looking to expand in the Nigerian market”. It emphasised.

Recently, President Donald Trump had placed tariffs on goods entering the United States (US), with Nigeria facing a 14 percent duty.
