Katsina Governor Inaugurates Groundbreaking Safe Space Energy Project

Katsina State has taken a major leap towards a sustainable future with the official groundbreaking of the Safe Space Energy project, an ambitious investment designed to revolutionize the state’s transport, energy, and economic sectors.

Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, who inaugurated the project, described it as a transformative initiative that will strengthen the local economy, create youth employment, and accelerate the state’s clean energy transition.

Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Katsina State in statement on 26 November, 2025 said Governor Radda thanked the management and investors of Safe Space Energy Limited for choosing Katsina State as the home of this transformative investment.

He assured them of the government’s full support for the project’s successful implementation.

The Governor highlighted that the project directly complements his administration’s ongoing reforms, which include introducing new electric and hybrid buses and plans to adopt electric vehicles for official use. He emphasized that the investment is a cornerstone of Katsina’s Climate Change Initiative and long-term commitment to building a cleaner, greener, and more climate-resilient future.

The Managing Director of Safe Space Energy, Nazir Abdullahi Alhassan, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to partnering with Katsina, citing the state’s supportive business environment, strategic location, and peaceful reputation as key reasons for the investment.

He unveiled comprehensive plans for the project, which include:

· Establishing a CNG mother station, a daughter station, and a large electric vehicle (EV) charging facility with 100 points.

· Deploying 50 CNG-hybrid vehicles capable of long-distance travel to cities like Kano, Kaduna, and Abuja.

· Introducing CNG conversion kits for tricycles (KKNP) and 50 electric tricycles, which charge in 40 minutes and significantly reduce operating costs for commuters.

· Setting up a service center, conversion hub, and a training academy in partnership with the Motor Development Commission to build local capacity and ensure long-term operations.

The project, expected to be completed before the first quarter of 2026, positions the Java axis of Katsina as a premier energy hub in Northern Nigeria. Officials present at the event, including Economic Adviser Khalil Nura Khalil, commended the Radda administration for its progress in the power and energy sector, noting that reliable energy is fundamental to economic growth.
