U.S. President Donald Trump had said he is not happy about his appointment. His administration has been pushing to be involved in the selection of a new leader in Iran.

On Sunday, the Israeli military warned it would target anyone who replaces a previous supreme leader. Tehran insists only Iranians can decide the future of their country.

There were scenes of celebration as the announcement was made. Pro-government supporters gathered on the streets of Tehran thanking God and declaring their support for the new leadership.

First Speaker:

Thank God someone became the leader who we are confident will avenge the blood of his father and will not compromise with America.

2nd Speaker:

We’re sure he won’t compromise with America. He’s a true son to Ali Khamenei.

He is the rightful successor to the late leader, God willing.

3rd Speaker:

I hope we deserve the honour to support him and make the country proud.

Meanwhile, Iranian drones and missiles continue to target countries across the Gulf region.

According to reports, in Bahrain, a fire broke out after a drone struck a Baku oil refinery in the south of the capital, Manama.

The facility is the country’s main oil refinery and crucial for its energy sector. The oil company has declared what’s known as major attack on its operations, which frees it from its liability and obligations.
