FG Orders Payment of Outstanding Wage Award to Federal Civil Servants Before August 15

The Federal Government has directed the payment of the remaining wage award owed to federal civil servants before August 15, while promising to address other outstanding welfare issues.

The directive followed a meeting between the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Prof. Taiwo Oyedele and the leadership of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC), where both parties discussed the outstanding obligations to federal workers.
According to the agreement reached at the meeting, the government will settle the remaining two months of the wage award before the August 15 deadline.
The development comes amid concerns raised by federal workers over delays in the payment of the wage award, which was introduced as a temporary measure to cushion the effects of economic hardship.
Union leaders welcomed the government’s commitment, expressing optimism that the directive would be implemented within the agreed timeframe and help sustain industrial harmony across the federal public service.
Discussions also covered other outstanding welfare issues, including the payment of promotion arrears and the implementation of the 40 per cent peculiar allowance.
The government assured labour representatives that the matters would be addressed separately through the necessary budgetary process.
The commitment to clear the outstanding wage award is expected to reduce pressure from organised labour while reaffirming the government’s pledge to improve the welfare of federal civil servants.
