The National Secretariat of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, under the leadership of Comrade Ahmed Aigbona has expressed sympathy with the management of Nasarawa United Football Club over the death of its player, Chieme Martins.
The President stated that the death of the young promising footballer who slumped and died during a  football encounter with Katsina United at the weekend calls for sobber reflection. ” We must reflect on the past, the present and plan for the future”, he stated.
This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the President, Comrade Ahmed Aigbona and the Secretary General of the Association, Comrade Mike Oboh, and made available to newsmen yesterday.
According to the statement, the death of Chieme Martins was quite disheartening to the National SWAN and its members across the country. ” As Sports Writers, we are worried by this development”, Aigbona stated.
He passionately advised the League Management Company, LMC to improve on the health facility during matches, just as Aigbona called for mandatory health insurance scheme for all categories of Nigerian players.
He prayed that may God Almighty give the family of the deceased and his colleagues the strength to bear the loss.
