Professor Mahmood Yakubu Retains Office As Buhari Reappoints Him, INEC Chairman

Barely 31days to end of tenure, President Muhammadu Buhari reappointed Professor Mahmood Yakubu as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for another five year term.
His reappointment on Tuesday, has put to an end speculations about his fate.
Professor Mahmood remains the first INEC Chairman in Nigeria to have a second term in the history of the electoral commission.
The appointment of the Chairman of INEC and Commissioners entails nomination by the president, ratification by the Council of State and confirmation by the Senate.
It will be recalled that Yakubu’s first appointment was ratified after the president’s nomination during an emergency Council of State meeting held on October 21, 2015.
The Professor of Political History and International Studies tenure however is expected to end on November 9, 2020.
