2020 NAWOJ National Election: All Roads Lead To Minna, NUJ Urges Candidates To Shun Campaign Of Bitterness, Calumny

The Nigeria Union of Journalists has called on candidates seeking offices to avoid campaign of calumny.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Nigeria Union of Journalists National Secretariat, signed by the Assistant National Secretary, Midat Joseph and made available to newsmen.
The statement urged candidates and their delegates to observe some decorum as election is not a do or die affairs.
“As the forthcoming 10th Triennial Delegates Conference of the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) slated for 13th -14th November, 2020, approaches, the National Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) wishes to advise all contestants to shun anger, bitterness and campaign of calumny as they go about seeking for votes across the States.
“Contestants must also rein in their followers to shun bitterness and rancour in order to make this election credible and as well make NAWOJ better.
“While, it is important to note that it is God who gives power to whom he wishes to, we urge them to see this election as one exercise of people belonging to one family under God and must conduct themselves in a manner that shows sacrifice of patriotism to the Union.
This sacrifice of patriotism is not for us alone, but for the generations yet unborn and the future of the Union.
The statement said.
Kaduna NUJ Council weeks back had experienced lots of hustling and bostling as candidates from over the states seeking different offices trooped in to showcase their programmes.
Present were the four candidates seeking for the office of the National President.
Mrs. Lucy Danjuma, Mrs. Ruth Abubakar, Hajiya Aisha Ibrahim and Mrs Ladi Bala.
All of these candidates have in one way or the other held different offices in NAWOJ and are promising laudable programmes that will move the association forward if elected.
Part of the train was Nma Ozioma Onwuka Okereke from Abia state seeking for the office of National Treasurer.
According to her, she is in the race to change the narrative by making sure NAWOJ has a sound financial system.
Host contestant Hajiya Daharatu Ahmed Aliyu from NUJ Kaduna is running for the office of National Secretary.
A terrain she is so familiar with and very much ready to use her expertise to bring change in the management of the association’s secretariat.
Chairperson Kaduna NAWOJ, Hajiya Fatima Aliyu high spirited had in her welcome address emphasized on the need for NAWOJIANS to work harmoniously to take NAWOJ to the next level.
Fatima wished the contestants a very happy contest come 13th November, 2020 in Minna when the final whistle will be blown and the game made to rest.
She used the opportunity to thank all her Exco members, entire NAWOJIANS leadership of the State Council, elders and Namegians who have been very supportive in the realization of her course.
Both the Zonal Vice President Comrade Yusuf Idris and Council Chairman, Adamu Yusuf urged the contestants to display some level of maturity come the D-day 13th November 2020 in Minna saying, all the candidates are eligible and that power comes from God.
Others present in their words of advised raised some areas of concern which need to be given attention.
Former NAWOJ Chairpersons, Mrs Jummai Adamu Yerima, Mrs Juliet Oyoyo and hajiya Farida Abubakar all tasked the candidates to live by their words as that is the only way to keep the spirit of NAWOJIANS alive.
They expressed concern over the need to carry NAWOJANS along as well as execute programmes that will impact positively on the lives of NAWOJIANS.
Such will go a long way in strengthening the bond and trust between the leaders and the led. They stated.
