I Am Nigeria Takes Orientation To

Queen Amina College
Zainab Tanimu
Kaduna, North – West
In its continuation to imbibe the spirit of oneness and patriotism in our youth, ‘I Am Nigeria’, an organization with the burning fire of changing Nigeria to reaching the greatest height was in Queen Amina school Kaduna, Wednesday, 30th, June, 2021 to kickstart it’s National Rebirth Orientation.
According to the Convener, ‘I Am Nigeria’, Julius Denham,  women play an important role in the affairs of any society.
Queen Amina school he said has produced notable women of substance who have contributed to the development of the nation.
“Queen Amina is a strong academic ground in the north , it has produced quite a number of women, good leaders in governance, businesses and a lot of other places. Queen Amina started when most of the northern states  have  not been so serious on the girl -child issue. Queen Amina is one of the piloter project when it has to do with girl- child. You see if there is going to be any change, it has to be from the family setting.

Explaining further reason for targeting the youth, he said.
“We want to change Nigeria’. Everybody has always sang the song, ‘a changed Nigeria’. The president has also start off his campaign earlier by saying, ‘a changed Nigeria’.
If you want to change a  system, you don’t start it from the head. You have to go downstairs. It is also known that the leadership of any nation is in the hands of the next generation”.

“If we are able to understand that there is no Nigeria’ except there is first, ‘you’. If l change ‘me’, it means that l am changing Nigeria’. So, our ability to first of all arm these people with the right perspective is very important.
Orienting the youth will also help in reducing crime in the society. Denham maintained.

Denham in his words of encouragement urged the students to take their studies seriously their gender not withstanding. Many women he said have faired well.
“The richest black women on Earth today, is a Nigerian. The person that designed the National Anthem is a woman.
“The first female fighter pilot in Africa is a Nigerian. So you also can become great through hard work and make our great nation proud,” he said.
Whatever role they find themselves playing should be done conscieciously for that is what will make Nigeria great. First and foremost they should see themselves as Nigeria.
“The project called ‘l Am Nigeria” itself is to come to terms with the fact that there is never a nation except there is a person. NIgeria is not a location, NIgeria is a person, that is you. Hence, if there is no you, there will be no NIgeria.
“This Nigeria that we are saying is a person and this person is ‘me’, ‘is you.
So if we are able to begin to change the nation, eventually we will be armed with enough power to begin the redemption of our nation.”

Part of the event was a lecture on importance of Constitution to the development of Nigeria and Its people which was delivered by a legal practitioner, Barrister Enejor Friday Owoigbo.
Enejor urged the students to read the Constitution in order to know the problems of Nigeria. By so doing will be able to profer solutions to the problems.  He also stressed on the importance of one knowing the history of his country.
With the interactive session, students were exposed and given opportunity to express their minds on issues.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Principal of Queen Amina College, Hajia Rakiya Isma’il Ahmad said despite our diversity we should see ourselves as one. She told the students to be proud to be Nigerians.
“Wherever you are, you should be proud that you are a Nigerian citizen.
“Nigeria has vast land and resources. She said.
Education in Kaduna is free and as beneficiaries, she urged them to make the best use of the opportunity at their doorsteps.
Hajiya Rakiya promised to form the I Am NIgeria chapter in the school.
