A group under the auspices of ‘l Am Nigeria’ in continuation of its quest to bringing about positive change has pleged to assist Government Day Secondary School  (GDSS) Kakuri with desks and chairs to enable the students learn under a conducive atmosphere.
This was as a result of the diplorable condition of learning at the school.
The coordinator of the group, Julius Denham lamenting over the disheartening learning condition said education is the bedrock of any nation and therefore should not be neglected in any ramification.
With the free primary to secondary school education policy by Kaduna state government, much needs to be  done in the area of provision of infrastructure. It stressed.
“In our quest to building the great Nigeria that everybody is yearning for, we came to this school to sensitize and instil in them the spirit of patriotism.
“This government school has been in existence for long, building up young boys and young girls.
“We came to this school to arm them with the reality that their votes count. Though they are young now, but in the next few years, they are going to cast their votes and decide who becomes the next leader in the nation.
“We are carrying up some form of awareness that they should not sell their votes when the time comes.
“But when we came here, some of the things we saw were things that border our hearts. Their study condition is very poor. Imagine, the school being at the central part of the nation.
Still lamenting, Denham said.
“We have  gone round and seen that almost all the classes don’t have seats.
“The students are sitting on the floor, and we are quite disheartened at the state of the school and we are looking at the possibilities of kicking off a project of equiping the school with some chairs and tables to increase the betterment of the sturdy condition of the school.
“I was opportuned to sturdy in a private school, abd with this kind of situation where students are sitting on the bare floor how do you expect them to learn well?
Aside the deplorable learning condition is over crowdiness of students in a class.
“As to your question whether the government is unaware of this,
since am not in government l wouldn’t know but  some of the students while speaking with us expressed their  lamentation over their pitiful condition. Their call is for government to see to their plights.
“I must say we are not impressed. The school though is well kept, is clean but in terms of the academics, with what l have seen today, l will fault it.
The group has advised that the monitoring of schools be intensified as that will give an update of happenings in all the schools.
The free primary to secondary school education intended for the good of its citizens can only be realized with better condition of learning put in place. It said.
Like one of the concerned citizens puts it, the governor might not even be aware of what is happening.
Speaking earlier, the Principal Government Day Secondary School Kakuri, Mallam Shaibu Abdullahi had commended the group for their stride in trying to sensitize the students on their rights and how to be good citizens.
” The programme, “l Am Nigeria” l must say is a good one. I commend your group for coming to enlighten the students on how to be good citizens of Nigeria and how to behave as Nigerians.
The lessons learnt would be beneficial to the school because it will make the students to behave well in the school. Not only that, it will make them realize that they have something in future for Nigeria.
Advising the youth,  Mallam Shaibu urged them to concentrate on their studies. This he said will help them in achieving their ambition in life.
“Read hard to achieve your ambition in life so that when you achieve it, you become good citizen of Nigeria”.
