Rice Farmers Association Distributes Seedlings, Pesticides To 1,390 Farmers In Kaduna To Boost Yield

Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN) today destributed seedlings and other items to farmers in Kaduna state to boost rice production under RIFAN Anchor Grower Programme in the state.

 

The exercise it said is in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s yearning to ensure that the nation is able to feed her citizens.

This was disclosed to journalists by the Chairman RIFAN, Kaduna State Chapter, Alhaji Muhammad Umar Numbu during the distribution exercise in Kaduna.
He said sometime in June this year, the President RIFAN flagged-off ‘Wet Season  Rice Farming in Kaduna state and was witnessed by the CBN Governor, and other stakeholders.
Also  flagged-off was the sales of rice to rice dealers and Millers as a way of bringing down price of rice in the state and nationwide.
Three Senatorial districts in Kaduna state were selected for today’s distribution exercise.
According to him, the selected farmlands in the three Senatorial districts are security free zones.
The coordinators of the three zone after collection are to ensure smooth delivery of items to beneficiaries.
“Today is a continuation of the distribution proper of the 2021 Wet Season Special Project.
In order to meet up with the yearnings of the President of the federal republic of Nigeria, Mallam Muhammadu Buhari that Nigeria should be able to feed the nation in terms of food production, we in RIFAN, we are taking over the rice production in the country.
We are operating in 3 Senatorial zones. In zone one, we have about three clusters, In the central zone, a cluster and in zone three, a cluster.
Explaining further, the Chairman said,
“In zone one, we have about 900 farmers, 900 hectares, that is, one hectare, one farmer. Zone two, 190 farmers and zone three, 300 farmers.
The farmers are the beneficiaries of these input distribution.”
Items distributed to farmers includes 4 bags of fertilizers, 3Kg improved varieties of rice seeds, pesticides and sprayers.
Numbu said RIFAN is putting necessary macheneries in place to ensure smooth planting season and bumper harvest.
“By so doing, both RIFAN and the beneficiaries will be happy. With the bumper harvest, the farmers will be able to repay their loans. He said.
The coordinators of the 3 zones,  Mallam Idris Abdulkareem  of Zone one, the Zone 3, and Central Zone coordinators all  signed the necessary documents to ensure the proper distribution of items to the farmers.
Appreciating all for their cooperation, Alhaji Numbu thanked RIFAN President and all that stood firm in the realization of the vision.
“I sincerely thank the Kaduna State Rice Farmers Association, the Excos, the Local Government Chairmen, Coordinators of the three zones, the Cluster heads and all the farmers for another opportunity we are witnessing today.”
Alhaji Muhammad Numbu however urged the farmers to put in their best in order that they can enjoy their harvest.
Inputs he said are loans that the beneficiaries have to pay either in cash or commodity exchange during harvest season.
With bumper harvest, if the farmers wish to sell the surplus to them, RIFAN will buy. He promised.
” RIFAN will receive it’s loan payment hundred percent. We will collect our own. And if the farmers choose to sell the rice to us, we will buy them instantly. If you are not selling, we allow you to take it home.” He sounded.
