The Association of Retired Police Officers today came out enmmas to make their grievances known on the deplorable condition they find themselves.
Speaking, Chairman, Association of Retired Police Officers, Kaduna Chapter, Rt.SP, Munir Lawal Zaria said their members are living in penury as they could not afford the basic needs of live.
Their children are out of school while some members have died due to lack of care.
“I want the world to know that police retirees are under terrible and disastrous conditions. It is only the president and the Almighty Allah that can rescue us.”
The group is demanding that police force be removed from the Contributory pension scheme which has not added any value to their lives.
With all the contribution being made, only 25% of their contribution it said  is given at the end of the day.
The group had also demanded for the creation of police pension board which they see as going to ameliorate the untold suffering their member are passing through.
With the passing of these two bills by the 9th assembly, they are pleading that President Ahmed Tinubu uses his good office to sign the bills into law.

Towards the end of their tenure, the 9th Nigerian Senate on 6th June 2023 passed the bill for the establishment of a Police Pension Board.

There was an organized prayer session for peace and tranquility for the nation.
Recall that on the 27th April, 2023 the group offered similar prayer for the passage of their bills which eventually scale through. No weapon is stronger than prayers. The group said.
“On the 6th of June this year as God will have it, wonderfully, surprisingly made it possible for the 9th assembly to pass our bills into law waiting for the assent of the president.
If the president signs this bill, things will be okay for the retirees.
“We are appealing to the president. We know he is a man of God. I will give the president a special name. This president should be addressed by me as people’s servant.” The president he said have made some impact within these few days of resumption in office.
Also speaking, Rt.DSP Esther Markus also described the situation as awful.

“It has been terrible, it has really been terrible. Infact, if l tell you the number of our Police retirees that have died as a result of this pension ‘scam’, is not a Contributory pension scheme, is a scam, l am telling you the truth.
She said she retired with three stars but what she collects as pension is nothing to write home about.
“I retired 2018, and l am still collecting the same N40,000. Can you imagine?  You see, as a result of this, many of our retirees have died. What is N40, 000 naira?  You know things are increasing by the day.
With this kind of situation, we have a lot of widows, out of school children because children are being withdrawn from school because of school fees.
I am so happy because we have a capable president on ground now.
In fact the things he has done already have given us hope because we have started seeing impact. We are so happy, we have the hope and confidence that he is going to remove us from this scheme.
“We want to congratulate the 9th assembly and the sponsors of our bills. We congratulate the 10th assembly as we appeal that they help fasten the signing of the bills into law.

The group  used the opportunity to congratulate president Tinubu as they wish him and team a successful administration.
