One of the presidential aspirants in the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)  race, Chris Isiguzo has pledged commitment to reposition the union if given the mantle of leadership.

This declaration was made while in NUJ Kaduna to unfold his plans to members..

The former National Ex-Officio and current Vice-President, Zone ‘C’ South-East of NUJ said him being in the race was a clarion call by his people who found him suitable and went to buy him the form.

“Abia Council bought the form for me and in unison, presented the form to me to run for the national president. I was shocked”.

If elected he promised to re-position Nigeria journalists by making them competitive with their foreign counterpart around the world.

That he would be in partnership with foreign media organization in order to be able to provide the needed technology for journalists through training which would be across the states.

He would put his wealth of experience to play by not only strengthening  negotiations but also build relationship that would help fasten development. Since the terrain is not new to him, these are achievable. He assured.

Since veterans are veritable tools with which success can be harnessed, he promised collaborating them into the system and they taking charge of the ethics and disciplinary committee.

Isiguzo and his campaign team  Rescue Mission were in Kaduna ,North West Nigeria  to solicit for support ahead of the NUJ 2018 National delegates congress in Abeokuta Scheduled to hold soon.

Comrade Isiguzo expressing concern on the state of the union had called on Kaduna members of the union  to join in his rescue mission to salvage the union from what he described as ineptitude, lackluster leadership and division crippling various councils. The union must be restored to earn its respect nationally and internationally. He emphasized.

He pointed out that during the tenure of the former president of the union, Comrade Muhammed Garba, the union was vibrant.

“Within 6yrs, Garba fixed the union. Just like a relay race, we thought we were going to move from glory to glory but our union has now become a non-governmental individual. That time we were able to reach out. NUJ was represented in government. This is why we feel it should be rescued. In the next 3yrs there would not be anything, NUJ He said.

Among things he promised to look into were the improvement of the welfare of members, Issue of Quacks and that of insurance for members.

The presidential aspirant was NUJ Kaduna sometime last month with his team of rescue mission on a consultation visit and promised to come back which he did because according to him, “he is a man of his word”

According to His Campaign Director General, Ali Atabor the immediate past Chairman of the NUJ, Kogi State chapter, he had described Mr. Chris as a good replacement for the incubent president, Comrade Waheed Odusile who have been accused of low performance.

“If we are looking for a replacement for Comrade Waheed Odusile who is not performing as expected, this man is that replacement”.

Mr. Chris is the Bureau Chief of Thisday Newspaperand also, President General of his community development association.

The council Chairman, Adamu Yusuf had commended him and his team saying, “Mr Chris is not new to the council for he was there when one of our journalist , Luka Binniyat had a case with the Kaduna state government”.
