Curfew: Kaduna Swan Postpones Maiden Inter Schools Indoor Games

As a result of the curfew imposed by the state Government on Kaduna metropolis  and its environs,  the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has deemed it necessary to postpone its maiden All Secondary Schools Indoor Sports Competition.

This was disclosed in a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson and Secretary, Abdulwaheed Adubi, made available to newsmen in Kaduna on Thursday.

“We are pained to announce that our indoor schools competition, billed to commence on Friday October 26, 2018 has been postponed, due to the security situation in Kaduna metropolis, which has resulted to the imposition of a curfew.

“From our time table, our events for the two-day programme are expected to end by 6pm. With the existing curfew which is from 5pm to 6am, our event cannot be successfully staged at this moment.

“We regret any inconveniences this may have caused the dignitaries we have invited, participating schools, students and those who have contributed to make the even successful financially or morally.

“We believe our decision which was done after consulting the Kaduna State SWAN Chairman, Comrade Isaiah Kemje Benjamin and some key executives was taken in good faith and would in the long run be beneficial to all stakeholders,” it stated.

The committee used to opportunity to thank those who have so far supported the event.

“We wish to say a big thank you to the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Director Grassroots Sports Development, Dr. Ademola Are, North West Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Olusola Luke, the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), MicroManna Group, Wadson Sports International, Ogbons Sports, Engineer Musa Nimrod, Kaduna State Government and the Commissioner of Youth Sports and Culture,” it stated.

They also reminded others who gave pledged to fulfill same before the new date.

“The committee will sit and deliberate to come up with a new convenient date,” it added.

More than 50 schools from the public and private sector were invited to participate in the event which has attracted lots of goodwill.

Events that will be featuring when a new date is fixed would be volleyball, chess, scrabble and table tennis.
