Perceived animosity between the President, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Mr Honour Sirawoo and AIPS President-Africa, Mr Mitchel Obi was laid to rest as the duo met in the country home of Sirawoo in Port Harcourt.

Arising from the meeting is the likely endorsement of Mr Mitchel Obi who has applied for nomination to vie for re-election as AIPS-Africa President scheduled to hold in Kenya.

Both leaders met behind closed doors and spoke frankly as partners in progress, especially as regards sports journalism and how SWAN can benefit from Mr Obi’s experience.

Sirawoo in a brief chat shortly after the meeting said the discussion was a routine one, aimed at aligning positions and ensuring that Nigeria puts her best foot forward.

The SWAN boss also disclosed that he discussed with Obi on the need to groom a successor to take over at the AIPS in the nearest future.

He assured the entire sports writing family and stakeholders in the sports industry that SWAN remains one indivisible association.

AIPS-Africa President, Mr Mitchel Obi lauded the positive impact Sirawoo’s leadership has brought to SWAN, saying “I am now sleeping with my two eyes closed, cos I have a functional president in Nigeria.”

He pledged to do everything within his powers to support Sirawoo’s administration towards ensuring that SWAN stands as a reference point in Africa.

Nomination for the AIPS Africa elections ended at 12 midnight on Monday, 6th of November 2017.

As at SWAN’s deadline for request for nominations on November 2, 2017, three Nigerian sports journalists, including Mitchel Obi had applied for endorsement.
