The federal government has commenced the implementation of the new minimum wage.

“Federal Government civil servants will start getting the new minimum wage from today (Thursday) this September 2024,” Mokwa said, adding, “What I can tell you is that the minimum wage salary payment is today. I am not sure of the arrears.”

This development follows the confirmation by the Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, Ekpo Nta, on Tuesday that the government has approved the upward review of the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS) in line with the minimum wage (Amendment) Act, 2024.

The new minimum wage of N70,000 was approved by President Bola Tinubu on July 18, 2024, and subsequently passed into law by the Senate. Additionally, the Federal Government has approved an increase in the monthly allowance for Corps Members to N77,000, effective from July 2024.
