According to the aspirant, a Nigerian television staff, the head of Judiciary desk of NTA, a barrister,
“we are not here to cast aspersion on anyone or individual but to interface with one another as we are all journalists.
“The contest is for choosing the best of the best for the general well being of members and the development of the union.
For him, the terrain he said is not new and that he has been proven and tested. His antecedents will take him there.
“We will bring back the glory of the union. Your interest is guaranteed under my leadership if elected.
We are coming to bring the union to the greatest of heights, reposition the body, make members respected, give safety, Journalists salary structure and insurance for all members.”
One’s antecedents he emphasized should be the yardstick to determining who the cap fits.
Recalling his achievements and track records, “For me, my achievements as Secretary and Chairman of NUJ Ondo State Council stands me out as most qualified for the position. Even as Vice President of Zone B, I was able to bring sanity and professionalism to bare.
“When I was in charge in Ondo, I made sure that veterans who had even stopped coming to the Secretariat for the way they were treated came back, we created a welfare package for them. Like we know, their experience is important.”
He assured that if given the mandate come 2024 delegate conference, his tenure will make a difference.
By electing me,  NUJ will get back its lost glory.
With regards to the integrity of journalists, “we will not compromise journalists. I understand what the law says. The integrity of all of us is being put on a scale.
“Journalists are not to be referred to as beggars, they should be seen as those moulding the society for greater good.’
“I brought leadership to the doorstep of members of Ondo state council. And it is still used as a yardstick in Ondo state.
Atumbi had condemned the idea of zoning, and agitators calling for zoning the position to the north, saying, the position of national president should be given on merit and not on religional status.
“The NUJ should put the interest of members first, their welfare, safety and salaries and not that of where the candidates come from.”
The position of national president he sees as that of a transformational leader rather than a transactional one.
Vote on merits not region. Atumbi sounded.
His DG campaign Alhaji Adamu Anso and Zonal Director NTA Kaduna, Alhaji  Aminu Abbas both described Dele Atumbi as a perfect leader and one who should wear the cap.
