NDAOWA Kaduna Honors Mohammed Thompson as “Duke of Barracks” for Empowering Military Communities

The Nigerian Defence Academy Officers’ Wives Association (NDAOWA), Kaduna Chapter, has bestowed the honorary title of “Duke of Barracks” on a young and passionate community leader, Mr. Mohammed Thompson, in recognition of his remarkable efforts toward youth empowerment and community development within military barracks.

Mr. Thompson, the visionary founder of the Beyond Barracks Project, was commended for his visionary community-driven initiatives aimed at equipping young people and families in military barracks with entrepreneurial skills, digital literacy, and socio-economic development opportunities.

In a letter of recognition signed by the outgoing NDAOWA Coordinator, Mrs. Halima Yahaya Ibrahim, the Association praised Thompson’s impactful work, noting that his initiative has become a beacon of hope for many families.

“Through his visionary initiative, Beyond Barracks Project, Mr. Thompson’s has consistently demonstrated unwavering commitment to promoting entrepreneurship, digital skills acquisition, and community growth,” the letter read.

Mrs. Ibrahim further commended the fruitful partnership between NDAOWA and the Beyond Barracks Project, which she said has produced life-changing programmes benefiting hundreds of youths and families across Kaduna and other states.

She described the “Duke of Barracks” title as a well-deserved acknowledgment of Thompson’s inspiring role in fostering resilience, creating opportunities, and strengthening the socio-economic foundations of military communities.

NDAOWA also reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the ongoing collaborative efforts, expressing confidence that the project will continue to uplift military families and contribute to sustainable community development.

The Trust Fund aims to promote entrepreneurship, enhance economic resilience, and improve the overall quality of life for families of military and paramilitary personnel particularly widows, spouses, and dependents living within the barracks.
