Supreme’ Court’s Victory: Ganduje Forgives Political Opponent Kwankwaso, Others
From Our Correspondent
Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state has after his victory at the Supreme Court declared that he has forgiven his main political opponent, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and others.
The Supreme Court on Monday affirmed the election of Mr. Ganduje as governor of Kano and dismissed the appeal filed by the PDP and its candidate, Abba Kabiru Yusuf.
The unanimous judgment was read by Justice Nwali Ngwuta, saying the facts presented did not support the appeal, which was predicated on a single ground.
Speaking with reporters at Government House Kano, Ganduje said it is now time that all political opposition be kept aside and face the development of the state squarely.
According to him, political tussle is inevitable in the world, but if a party eventually wins an election, the opposition should sheath their sword and face the development of the people.
“Political tussle is inevitable in the world. It is not peculiar to Kano or Nigeria only. It is all over the world. Even in the USA, there is such a political tussle where opposition will be fighting one another.
“So, in our case, since the Supreme Court has ruled in my favour, it is now time to sheath the sword and face our state.
“I have forgiven everybody and hope everybody will forgive me. Even the Kwankwasiyya faction of PDP, I forgive them. I call on them to cooperate because we are all children of democracy,” said Mr Ganduje.
On the Supreme Court verdict, Mr Ganduje said “Kano people are very happy so also our party and I myself. It is the victory for our state. We thanked the judiciary for the job well done.
“The issue of opposition and fighting each other is over. They took us to the court to exercise their right and nobody fault them on that. They took us to the appeal and supreme courts which have all declared me winner.
“It is now time for reconciliation. Let’s come together to move Kano state forward,” he said
“The free education policy is not for APC supporters only, it is for the people of Kano state. So also security, it is for all. So, I call on all and sundry to come and join hands to achieve even development for our dear state.
Ganduje assured the people of his determination in fulfilling the trust reposed in him saying , “We are going to launch community policing very soon in Kano. Security is for the people of Kano and we call on everyone to cooperate”.
He thanked the five emirs, the ulama, and business people, among others for their support.
