The sustainance of family ties has been emphasized in Islam as it is well cherished in the sight of Allah.

In Islam, the importance of maintaining family relations is paramount. The Holy Quran says, “And be careful of [your duty to] God in whose name you demand [your rights] from one another, and [to] the ties of relationship; surely God is ever watchful over you!” (4:1)
This was the focus of the sermon delivered during the Jumat prayer held at NASFAT Kaduna mosque.
Austadh Abdur-Rasaq Dhul-Qarnain while delivering the sermon  called on Muslim faithful and the generality to exhibit kindness and love to one’s family. Doing so he said not only attracts reward from Allah but could be a ticket to paradise.
“Family tie is very vital in the sight of Allah(SWT) because it is a commandment from Allah. Allah emphasizes this in the Quran, Suratul-, Rahad, Quran 13, Verse 21. ..And those who join which Allah has ordained to be joined, (I.e the family)
Stressing,  Austadh Abdur-Rasaq continued.
“Try to join your family together, unite your family, show them love , show them kindness. Be good to them and fear your Lord.
Fearing your Lord in trying not to cut the rope between you and your family means that you have fear of Allah. And try to be afraid of any evil in your account on the day of judgment.
“By trying to do good to people, by being kind to your people, you are trying to erase all evil things from your account on the day of judgment in the sight of Allah.
Many people view the word ‘family’  as referring to just the husband and wife, he said.
“Family is beyond husband and wife.
Your family starts from your parents. That is, your father, your mother. Even those before your father and mother are your family. You have extended family. These are your family. You need to do things for them, visit them. That is what Allah is trying to tell us.
Still emphasizing on the importance of maintaining  a strong family tie.
“Severing family ties (qata-ur-rahm), is intolerable. Two places in the Quran, The Almighty cursed the one severing family ties without legitimate reasons that are acceptable in Islam.
The Holy Prophet Mohammed (SAW) described  strengheing of family ties  as advantageous. It can even lead one to entering paradise.
The Holy Prophet said, “Do not ever sever your relationship with a member of your family even if he severs his relationship with you.”
“Islam views that keeping relations with family members prolongs one’s life and increases one’s sustenance. The Holy Prophet said:  ” He who wishes his sustenance be expanded and his life elongated, should join the ties of kinship. (family).
“Safeguarding the relationship with relatives is so encouraged that relatives have been mentioned 23 times in the Holy Quran along with some valuable rulings relating to them. “And give to the kindred his due.” (17: 26)
“And Worship God and join none with Him in worship, and do good to parents, kinsfolk.” (4:36)
Throwing more light, he said.
“A servant of Allah went to Prophet of Allah, (SAW) he said, tell me something that l can do that would help me to enter paradise and stop me from entering hell-fire. The Prophet of Allah said, try to worship Allah. When you worship Allah, do not associate anything with Allah SWT. Be constant with your prayers, try to pay zakat and try to unite your family, try to be kind to your family. Try to love your family.
If you take this advise from me as it is ordained by Allah or as l have advised you, then you will enter paradise.”
