As ENDSARS continues its peaceful protest across the nation, the United States Mission to Nigeria has decided to shut down its consulate in Lagos.

The U.S Mission in Nigeria made this known in a message on its official website on Tuesday.

Multiple demonstrations it said were going on across Nigeria which includes areas within the consular districts of Abuja and Lagos.

Though it acknowledged the fact that most demonstrations were peaceful, but for fear that some have become violent decided to shut down in 02 major thoroughfares and bridges.

While urging US nationals across Nigeria to be at alert, it said,

“Consulate General Lagos is closed for the rest of today and tomorrow.

“We continue to urge all U.S. citizens to avoid areas around protests and demonstrations and to check local media for updates and traffic advisories.

“Continue to be vigilant and avoid areas affected by the protests,” the Embassy warned.

As a result of the protest, Lagos State government ordered indefinite closure of all schools and imposed a 24-hour curfew with effect from 4 p.m. 20th October 2020.
