COVID-19: El-Rufai Threatens Possibility Of Another Lockdown As Kaduna
State Records 30% Rise In Daily Infections
Zainab Tanimu
Kaduna, North – West, Nigeria
Governor El-Rufai of Kaduna state has threatened to impose another lockdown in Kaduna state.
The governor who stated this on Wednesday said it has noticed that citizens no longer abide by the COVID-19 rules and regulations and therefore has led to increase in the rate of infections.
As a measure to control the spread, it has no other option he said  than to impose a second lockdown on the entire state if the rate of infections continue to rise.
El-Rufai is worried that the rate of infections will soon overwhelm the state’s health system if nothing is done urgently to contain the spread of the virus.
“Kaduna state has been recording 30% new COVID-19 infections daily in the last two months.”
Lamenting he said, “some residents have refused to abide by all the safety measures put in place by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), hence there might be another lockdown soon.
To contain the spread of the virus, the governor has directed that all employees of the state government must undergo a mandatory COVID-19 test.
Now that Christmas is by the corner, the governor advised that residents observe all COVID-19 precautionary measures of wearing face masks, avoiding large gatherings,  maintaining social distance and other safety measures throughout and after the celebration.
Speaking, a former Minister of State for Health, Dr Idi Hong explained that the second phase of COVID-19 is more deadly than the first one, hence the need for the people to  be responsive in their actions so avert the danger of being infected.
