In yet another daring move in search of lasting peace and cessation of kidnappings and other acts of armed banditry and criminality, Saudi trained and renowned scholar of Islamic jurisprudence, Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Mahmud Gumi, has on Thursday 21st January, 2021 visited another dangerous bush at Kagarko Local Government area of Kaduna State.
DESERT HERALD reports that the dangerous journey took Sheikh Gumi and his dedicated team to Jere before proceeding to Kagarko.
Before his mission of preaching and confidence building to the Fulanis at Janjala bush situated at Kagarko Gracing Reserved, Sheikh Gumi stopped over at the palace of the Emir of Kagarko, His Royal Highness Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar to greet him and to seek for his support. The Kagarko Emir warmly welcomed Sheikh Gumi, offered prayers for the overall success of the important mission and commended the Sheikh and his team for their sacrifice, dedication and patriotism.
At the Janjala bush where the Fulanis, including the armed militia gathered to listen to Sheikh Gumi, the stories, the grievances and lamentations of how governments at all levels neglected and abandoned their welfare over the years, how they lost thousands of cows to cattle rustling and misguided military bombardments that mostly ended in destroying properties, houses and killing of vulnerable members of their families especially women and children, was the highlight of the submission of virtually all the speakers that spoke at the interactive and preaching sessions. The ignorant militia, who never got the opportunity to study both Islamic and western education, said they were left with no option but to carry arms, to recover the possessions they lost and to kill at will as a form of revenge.
While responding to their grievances, Sheikh Gumi apologised to them for whatever happened to them, their families and belongings in the past. He said Islam forbids any form of evil revenge and that part of the worst atrocities before Allah is the killing of innocent people and forceful extortion of their possessions. Sheikh Gumi told them that Northern Nigeria in particular is in an economic and security crisis. He said everybody; every religion in Nigeria is affected by the increasing web of insecurity. Sheikh Gumi criticises his critics as naive people and told the gathering that the success of his peace and preaching mission will benefit everybody in Nigeria including the military personnel, top people in government that today cannot embark on a hitherto simple journey from Abuja to Kaduna by road and prefer using the train or in armed convoy because of how security has alarmingly deteriorated.
He assured the Fulanis to give him the benefit of doubt and that this time the government will seriously look into their demands and grievances. In addition to his initial pledge of seeing President Muhammadu Buhari on the issue, he told them that Governor Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai is very positive and keen in seeing an end to all acts of criminality. He said he has been talking to Governor El-Rufai on the issue. Sheikh Gumi also promised to see the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, as well as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, all in an effort to proffer lasting solution in addition to reaching out to the Fulani militia and extracting truce with them.
Those that spoke during the interactive session include notable Fulani Ardos, their youth leaders, the representative of the Emir of Kagarko, the Chief Imam of Sultan Bello Mosque, Sheikh Muhammad Suleiman Adam and the Publisher/Chairman of DESERT HERALD, Mallam Tukur Mamu (Dan-Iyan Fika) who is also in-charge of the Media and Publicity Department of Sheikh Abubakar Mahmud Gumi Initiative for the Propagation of Sunnah, an organisation that embarks on this difficult task.
Before leaving the Janjala bush and to demonstrate his commitment, Sheikh Gumi distributed various Islamic elementary books such as Ahdhari, Ishmawi and Risala. He also distributed wrappers to the Fulani herders and to the widows.
He also laid the foundation for the building of a school, a clinic and a borehole and assured them that the government will assist.
The Fulanis expressed gratitude to Sheikh Gumi and were seen and captured in pictures visibly happy. The leaders assured Gumi that there will be changes and that they are ready to lay down their arms as long as the government is sincere and committed to changing their lives.
Dr. Sheik Ahmad Gumi peace mission has been on going for some days now and has attracted commendations from different quarters.
