Insecurity: Zamfara Commissioner Of  Information, Ibrahim Dosara Opens Up On Recorded Successes
… Says, Govt. to open up Telecom Services soon
Zainab Tanimu
Kaduna, Northwest Nigeria
The Zamfara State Government has recorded tremendous success in the fight against banditry.
The government is hoping to open up Telecom Services soon.
The Zamfara State Commissioner of Information, Ibrahim Dosara disclosed this in a chat with the media while in Kaduna.
According to him,
“owning to the military operation in the state, eighty percent of bandits have fled  Zamfara State to Sokoto. Only 20 percent are in Zamfara.
“I just want to share some issues with you concerning the ongoing operations in Zamfara state by the military that is geared towards bringing lasting solutions to the problem of banditry in the State.
You may be aware about a month ago, government of Zamfara state decided in the search for the lingering insecurity in the state decided to impose some stiffer measures that could help in making easy for the military to carry out their operations to take the fight to the enclave of the bandits.
“I am happy to announce to you that after a month of that operation of imposing the measures, we have greatly succeeded in so many respects.
“One of the areas is making the bandits to flee Zamfara state for fear of being killed by the security men. So, many bandits have flee Zamfara state to areas where they will be safe.
“Just yesterday, the Sokoto state Commissioner of security was granting interview to NTA, and it was on the news that 80 percent of the bandits in Zamfara state have now gone to Sokoto and the Sokoto state government is trying it’s best to push them out or to neutralize them.
According to him, only 20 percent of the bandits are in Zamfara and Katsina state. And l am sure the Sokoto state   government will not relent in it’s efforts to ensure that the bandits are also pushed out from the state.”
Some other breakthrough he said have been recorded as over 2000 informants who pose serious problem of banditry  in Zamfara State have been arrested and are now  providing vital information regarding their operations and the way they operate with the bandits to the government.
Names have been mentioned which includes highly placed persons. He stated.
To further enhance success, a committee has been put in place to unravel issues.
Adding that, government  will not relent in its efforts to ensuring peace and tranquility in the state.
Ibrahim has applauded the support and cooperation of the people which he said  have kept the government on their toes  to winning the battle.
“Another success we have with the operation is the general acceptance of the measures and reforms to ensure the  lasting solutions for  security.
“All the people of Zamfara state except those who are antagonists of peace, tranquility, progress and development of Zamfara state are not happy with the measures taken.
“The people supported, operated  with us and prayed for the government to succeed. It is part of the successes, and support and cooperation of the press given to us and in consideration of the hardship that people are exposed to, the government of Zamfara decided to provide relief packages to the people in terms of essential commodities, like rice, maize, beans and guinea corn to cushion the hardship faced during the period. He informed.
Speaking on the challenges, he said
some politicians who are not happy with government’s achievements have resorted to blackmail by sponsoring fake news on the social media to discredit their work.
Also not happy are those people who were cut off from supplying bandits with food, drugs and weapons and had also resorted to sponsoring fake reports on social media.
An example is a case of former Sokoto state Governor,  Attahiru Bafarawa whose statement on BBC he found worrisome. He. had accused the Governor of Zamfara state of not doing a good job.
“I was so much atonished and surprised by the comment of the former governor who we considered as an elderly person who is being respected to have the gut to make nasty comment against the government that is doing everything possible to protect the lives, and property of the people.”
Such damaging statement on Zamfara should not come from a one time executive who he said during his time had some smear to his record.
He needs to be called to order. He said.
However, Government regrets the hardship posed by stringent measures taken saying, it is not intentional but for the good of the generality.
In no longer time, because of the successes recorded, “the government is considering opening up the state capital in terms of Mobile Network services, Insha Allah before the end of this week.”
He assured.
