Gender Based Violence: AMDF Pays Advocacy Visit to Kaduna State Ministry of Justice

As part of activities towards the implementation of the project “Prevention of Gender Based Violence in 12 Communities in Kaduna” Africa Media Development Foundation (AMDF) conducted an advocacy visit to the office of the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Kaduna State, North West Nigeria.
Introducing the project, the Advocacy Coordinator, Sekyen Dadik said the meeting was aimed at garnering the support of the ministry as major stakeholders in the administration of justice and the full implementation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law, in the state.
Speaking to AMDF, the attorney General and commissioner of Justice, Aisha Dikko welcomed and assured the team of the ministry’s unwavering support.
Also addressing the team, the permanent secretary, Kaduna state ministry of  Justice, Dahiru Bayero commended AMDF for seeing it fit to pursue such a noble course and for partnering with the ministry towards the implementation of the project.
Bayero said the ministry is always ready to render support where necessary towards the success of the project ” I am very excited about this and I assure you we will cooperate with you fully”.
Also speaking, the chair person, Observatory Steering Committee (OBSTEC) Amina Audi expressed concern over the low awareness on the existence of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law in the state by citizens and relevant stakeholders in the administration of justice.
She called for more effort by the government to ensure that the VAPP Law not only remains on the shelf, but see to it that relevant government bodies are aware of its existence and ensure it is duly used to punish offenders.
The organization is working with support from Rise Up,  a project of the Public Health Institute of John Hopkins University. with funding from Cummins inc.
