Tukur Tukur Foundation takes Medical Outreach to  Tudun Biri

Tukur Tukur Foundation in its bid to touching lives has taken its medical outreach to  Tudun Biri.
Tudun Biri is a community in lgabi local government area of Kaduna state.
Speaking to newsmen, the Chairman, Tukur Tukur Foundation, Col.Haruna Idris Zaria, (rtd.) said the foundation decided to extend its medical outreach to this community as part of their rural commitments.
“It has not been long we finished from nearby village called, ‘Birnin Yero gari’ so, we decided to come here as part of our activities. To give the people that sense of belonging.”
The foundation has taken such programme to various communities both in the northern and southern parts of the country. He added.
Despite challenges, it has continued to contribute the little it can to touch lives through it medical outreach because according to him, the government cannot do it alone.
Col. Haruna while calling on well meaning Nigerians to assist the less privileged in the society, stressed on the need for government to do more in the area of health particularly those in the rural communities.
The exercise not only cover provision of free drugs. Medical personnel in different areas of specialization were also on ground to see to the needs of the people.
Speaking, the eye specialist, Dr Nuhu Bala explained that it is important to have regular check up at least once a year to ascertain the condition of ones eyes. The eye he said is a very important part of the body as such should not be toyed with.
“It is important that one goes for eye check up at least, once in a year because some eye cases, they are silent killers.
Sometimes you see persons with their two eyes but they are not seeing. It doesn’t come with any challenge, like pains, itching etc.
Through checking, we can detect early if one has problems. It could be glaucoma case in which we refer such person to national eye center for proper examination and treatment.
 As we are here today, when we check their eyes we give them drugs.
Those that need glasses, they are given reading glasses.
And for those who need to have surgery on cataract cases, we book them so that we can come back another day and do the surgery for them.”
According to him, all the cases they have attended to have to do with allergy and other minor cases.
The otolaryngologist on ground, (the ear, nose, and throat doctor), Dr. Aminu Kudan, cautioned on the use of cotton board (cotton swabs) in cleaning ones ear, saying, many people misuse it. Some match stick etc.
It is not a safe way of cleaning the ear. It is safer to clean the outer part of the ear. He emphasized.
He warned against regular cleaning of the ear which cleans off the natural earwax which serves as protection.
The earwax in the ear drum which many refer to as dirt is of great importance to sustaining the eardrum. It is advisable to seek medical attention where there is ear problem. He explained.
During the interactive session with the people who trooped out to assess this opportunity, health talk on personal hygiene and how to go about maintaining healthy environment was delivered.
The need for regular cleaning of surrounding, bathing and eating of healthy food was stressed.
“Make sure you cook your food very well before eating. Cover you food to avoid being contaminated because it can cause disease.”
For the eye, “take lots of vitamin A. Some of these vitamins you can get from fruits like, carrot, cucumber, etc.”
Expressing their joy as they
asked questions on some health related issues, they thanked the foundation for extending their gestures to members of their community.
