He made this appeal while revealing a

pathetic story of one madam Abigail, a widow who together with her two children hawk late into the night, ‘liquid soap’ which hardly sustain their needs.

Hon. Dibis speaking to journalists on  roving who together with him visited her home narrates how fate brought him in contact with the family.

“I came across madam Abigail and her two kids on the street in the night, in Barnawa at about 11.30pm hawking liquid soap to keep body and soul together. Such a pathetic situation .  I must say there are many of them like Abigail all over the place.

“I was moved, she is a mother of three but owning to her economic situation had to send the eldest daughter to her mother in the village. Such a struggling mother. According to her she makes her liquid soap with meagre amount of N5,000.

“This woman needs help. Look, l am a Muslim. Forget about her being a Christian or from a different tribe. I am a Muslim, my religion teaches me that we are all human irrespective of difference in faith. Respect should be accorded accordingly as human beings. All that matters is that you’re a human being and these children l look at them as my children, so we just have to do what we can do to assist her.

“This is her neighbor, Joseph, a wonderful guy. Since l met them that night, he has been communicating with me. So, yesterday while in government house receiving those abducted released school children, he communicated and l promised to  be around. So today here l am, with her phone that l promised. Thank God, Allah has made it possible for me to keep to my promise.”

Hon Debis aside keeping to his promise of buying, madam Abigail a phone for easy communication also came along with some food items for her and the children. Not only that, he also promised to see to the education of her children.

He said, “from today onward, l promise to do everything humanly possible to treat these children like my children, and also take them back to school.

Please l am pleading that those of us who by the grace of God have the capability to assist such people should do so. You are not doing it because of anyone but for the sake of God. Saying, no condition is permanent and that the position some of us find ourselves today, ‘living good’, is not by our making but by the grace and mercy of God.
Explaining, he said , the Kaduna state government has made education free  for our children from primary one to secondary three. I will by the grace of God ensure that when  the schools resumes, l will make it my responsibility to enroll these children in school. I will make provision by the grace of God, their books and uniforms.  Any good Samaritan who wishes to render assistance can contact her or us as we link her up on phone or take the person to where she is.

Still pleading, he said.

“The little you can give will go a long way to make them survive. If these two kids, who are leaders of tomorrow are not in primary school, and we are happy and if they grow up like this, we will  be expecting different human beings at a later day.

What caught his interest he explained the first day he saw them was the commitment and zeal displayed to sell their ware. Praising her for maintaining her dignity  despite all odds. A situation many find difficult to stand.
He thanked  the gentlemen who made the task of locating Abigail’s house easy. Stressing on the need to be one brother’s keeper.
“These guys, l appreciate them. That night they volunteered and gave us their younger brother to follow up and assist us in locating her house. I am so glad l met people like that. That day l was dressed in caftan and these young guy surprisingly tried to see that we help the woman.
Commending Abigail  ‘s good conduct and how she carries herself in the mist of all her trials, her landlady, Mrs Ruth Sunday, expressed happiness over the gesture praying that God replenishes – pocket and all that stood by her.
“The day Abigail met me that she needed a house for rent, telling me to reduce the rent, telling me she lost her husband six years back, l felt sorry for her and said l will pardon her and reduced the payment to six months.
“I don’t know how my spirit just jam to help her.  I am a mother of five children, l am not with them, l don’t know how they are, only God. As you help, God will also help you because no one knows tomorrow. Abigail is of good character. By the grace of God, l will put more efforts, so that this her night “waka-waka” to sell will reduce” She said.
Also contributing, Mr. Joseph through whom – located her has this to say.
” I tell you if l do not give her food, they cannot eat, she just de suffer kawai. Joseph is overjoyed for her. The son is very intelligent.

Mrs Abigail holding the phone presented to her.

Mrs Abigail dumbfounded with such humanly love extended to her and the children while receiving her phone broke into tears. She thanked the honourable for his gesture as she prayed for him and all that have been supportive for God’s reward.

According to her, “l just want to thank you because l did not expect all these things. When l came here, l did not have handset, l did not have food to eat.

I am really happy. My heart is full of joy today. I soak gari’ this morning, l eat bread this afternoon and l begin to ask myself, what l am going to eat again? Really, I am tired, no food to eat, not to talk of handset. If l want to call people, l will just go and beg people to borrow me handset. My children have been telling me that, mummy,  we are tired of waka-waka up and down. I keep telling them, don’t worry, I say everything is in God’s care.

“I know that l don’t have anything but God, look at what God has done for me. I don’t even expect that you can do this kind of thing for me. I am grateful.

“I am happy today because l am full of joy, over happiness is what is making me shed tears because you people don’t know what l have been passing through. My neighbors are the ones that cook food and give my children to eat. Even my landlady, l use to collect credit to give my children food to eat for there is nothing for me to do.

What an experience. This is a very good month to help, month of Ramadan. Please contribute in putting smiles on peoples faces as Allah promises reward for such beings.

My Governor, Uba Sani, is one governor who cherishes the act of compassion. “Putting smiles on peoples faces.” He chipped in.
