NUJ Presidential Ticket: Sen Shehu Supports Garba Muhammad’s Candidacy

A former lawmaker, Sen. Shehu Sani who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial zone in the 8th Senate has called on members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to rally round and give support to Garba Muhammad as he formally announced his candidature for the NUJ Presidential race.

He made this call at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Secretariat (NUJ) Kaduna on Monday during the aspirant’s flag – off campaign ceremony.

Speaking through his representative, Alhaji Mohammed Suleiman, Garba Muhammed is the best candidate for the union. He said.

“”Kaduna is like Lagos in terms of Journalism and for decades, the state has remained at the forefront of the profession in northern Nigeria.

Comrade Sani lauding the leadership abilities of Garba Muhammad said it is important that the candidate from the state becomes president of NUJ going by the role the council has played in the practice of the profession in time past.

Still speaking on the senator’s passion for members of the pen profession, his father he said was of the pen profession. He recalled his words.

“I recall that their was a time at a conference at NUJ when Journalists were attacked and some injured. that prompted me to push for significant of the Freedom of Information Bill.”

Also speaking on the need to support Garba Muhammed’s dream, Managing Director, MD, KSMC Ahmed Maiyaki, said he has known the aspirant for years and believes that as national leader of the NUJ the interests and welfare of members will be paramount while also encouraging the promotion of professionalism in the practice.

“I know how he helped the family of one of our colleagues after he died and he is still helping them today and for this and more I believe members will be better for it.”

The aspirant appreciating members for their support promised to serve the union conscientiously and will do his possible best to take the the union to the next.level.

Garba spoke on some of his past achievements as he opened up on part of his agenda for the betterment of the union amongst which are the improvement of welfare of members and that of pursuing the take off of a radio station for the union.
