Kaduna, Northwest Nigeria

ARATIBIOTECH Limited had on Wednesday, during a symposium held at the Nigerian Air Force NAF Club Kaduna enumerated numerous ways by which to tackle challenges faced over time in the agricultural sector by farmers particularly in the area of ginger production.

The discussion which brought together experts including environmental analyst, dwelled on the consultative and products validation.

In a paper titled, “Biological Treatment Solution for Ginger Disease Outbreak & Bioherbicide Agriculture, Solution, Kaduna 2024, the paper tried to look at Nigeria and Africa challenges.

Nigeria agriculture it said has the potential to reclaim its former position as the main mover of economic growth of the country and the continent.

The global warming and Sahel Africa’s region of lack of fresh water, organic pasture and low rates of irrigation which are contributory factors to low yields, weak markets and low profitability across the sector not withstanding, Aratibiotech Limited with its expertise in research and products development in agriculture and environmental biotechnologies promises to proffer the answers.

Aratibiotech Limited has played a catalytic role in developing the agricultural growth corridor concept, the rationale of which is to leverage investment and demonstrate a sustainable growth mode.

It is the believe that with Nigeria’s good soil and climate conditions, backbone infrastructure, and targeted catalytic financing, there is great potential to cascade investments along the agricultural value chain.

With public private- partnership encouraged, the problems will be surmounted. It assured.

Not only is Aratibiotech Limited

public-private partnerships in a traditional sense, they are also a multi-sector commitment to action.

Focus on the first day of the symposium was on,

ARATI Baja – Liquid Biofertilizer for Ginger/Turmeric cultivation.
ARATI Biopesticide for Bio-control of the fungal/bacteria pest/disease on ginger/turmeric cultivation (case study, Kaduna Ginger Pest/Disease).
 Ginger Postharvest Management (ARATIDIN).
Bioherbicide for sustainable agriculture,
ARATI Yaranta (Post-emergence) and ARATI Korova (Pre-emergence).
The fora also considered the agricultural hazard posed by ‘weed’.
Organic horticulture producers rank weeds as one of their most troublesome, time-consuming, and costly production problems.
As highlighted in the presentation,
“With the increasing significance of organic horticulture, the need for new bioherbicides to control weeds has grown. Potential bioherbicides may be developed from pathogens, natural products, and extracts of natural materials.
“Fungal and bacteria pathogens are two important types of microbial agents that have potential to be used as bioherbicides. The integration of bioherbicide technology into current weed management systems may help manage herbicide resistance, reduce production costs, and increase crop yields.”
The annual losses caused by weeds has been estimated to over US$26 billion in the USA. AUS 3.3 billion in Australia and US$ 11 billion in India exclusively in 10 major crops.

Fielding questions from journalists shortly after the event, the Coordinator,  Engr. Salaudeen Majeed shed more light on the event.
